Preston Allen
Past Notes
June 4th, 2013
Last lesson Preston indicated that this would be his last lesson. I hope he continues in the fall.
We decided to just try to finish the whole song structure, which actually, we weren't far from completing.
I wrote out the chords of the whole song, and showed him where the fingering picking re-occurs in the song.

Preston must have forgotten to come this week.

Preston and I worked on the intro of Knee Deep for the whole lesson, and went over it many times to help him get used to the finger picking approach and switching chords.
I gave him some strategies for moving to new chords faster.
We focused on the first 4 measures, and he wanted to save the remainder of the intro for next week.

Today we added Knee Deep by Zach Brown Band, and I showed him how to play the first measure of the intro.
Bring the iPod next week and we'll record a video of the part.

Preston and I started by talking a bit about his goals for lessons. He has recently decided he wanted to lead worship. He's been playing a lot lately, and wants to focus on learning new chords, singing and playing at the same time, etc.
We went over the chords he already knows, and I explained to him what 9ths and sus chords are (by counting up the number of notes from the bottom of the chord). We'll continue to talk about the theory of chords as we go... understanding the reasoning of how chords are made makes it easier to play in the future.
We worked through a song in my book of worship songs, "Bless the Lord O My Soul," and we also added four new chords to his list of chords: C, C9, C7, and C maj7.
