Rock & Roll 101

It seemed like Iri forgot to do any work on her music this week. I asked her to finish building her melody patterns and put chords with it, and to write another verse or two.

Also, the second line of the chorus needs to be fleshed in.

In today's first lesson, I taught Ire and Eri at the same time, giving them turns answering questions etc. I think this ended up creating a bit of competition between them which might have been less ideal. They were each vying for my attention. Going forward, it's probably better to meet with them individually, and I think it might be better if the other student isn't in the class room listening. Perhaps one of you can take a student to the library down the street, or something like that while you wait? I tried to teach them some principles of song writing, but I wasn't certain the the concepts were clear. Lyrically, talking about metaphor is a somewhat adult concept, and I think it may have been lost on them. Some of the basics of patterns with integrated surprise may have made sense. I also taught them about theme repetition patterns, giving them homework to create a set of themes using the ABAC pattern. At the end of the lesson I showed them how to arpeggiate a chord.
