November 20th, 2024
Today was Amy's last lesson for now, and she'll come back again in the future.
We did the vocal warm up, then sang Jesus Be The Centre.

We continued where we left off last week, first with scales on vowels, and then singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow... after that we sang a gospel song for a bit. She ran out of breath a lot, so I recommended she work on that by holding her breath, and singing and holding notes while timing herself.

We did warm ups and scales on Ooo and Ahh, and then at the halfway mark, started working on a song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
We talked about biting Rs, and singing dipthongs so that you choose the first vowel to hold instead of a latter vowel sound.

This was Amy's first lesson, and today we started with trying to figure out her range, and some of the possible things to focus on with her voice. She has a very rich and resonant voice, and it was wonderful to hear it. We did scales to start, with the ahh. We then looked at Eee, and later Ooo. I asked her to watch the punching of the top note, and to think about the whole range of notes as a phrase, with the last and final note as the destination. Any emphasis is the last note. Here's a rehearsal scale I made a long time ago... maybe it's helpful. https://www.rockandroll101.ca/resources/vocal-scales.mp3
