Ryerson Morgan
Past Notes
May 28th, 2024
As the last lesson, we just had fun playing through a bunch of songs today, and not focusing as much on learning new chords etc.
We did
May 21st, 2024
Ryerson did a good job today!
He didn't practise as much as usual, he said, because of the holiday, but we went through the TAB for Fast Car, and decided it was a little too complicated for now.
Instead we added The Weeknd, Save Your Tears:

Ryerson told me he's practising 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week! That's pretty amazing.
We went over Stitches, but he didn't quite have the chord changes fast enough to play it.
We then added Fast Car by Luke Combs

Today we went over Sunflower, and Ryerson did awesome on it. Great job, 9/10!
We then tried adding Stiches by Shawn Mendes, and went through it at 50% speed, but it's a bit hard. We decided to add a country song, Fast Car by Luke Combs for next week.

We went through Shake It Off to start. Ryerson is doing well, changing chords correctly most of the time.
We then added a new song, Post Malone and Swae Lee, Sunflower:

Ryerson came in Annabelle Trousdale's spot today.
We went through Happy Birthday three times, and a bit of Circles, and then added a song by Taylor Swift, Shake It Off:

This repeats three chords for the whole song: A minor, C, and then G.

We went through all of his chords to date, and then the three songs he's got.
I gave him a strategy for not falling behind in a song, but suggesting he take a few beats out of the bar he's currently playing to move his hand to the new chord. This way he doesn't lose time.
We then did some drills to switch between chords, trying to get them down to 1 second for each change.
April 9th, 2024
We reviewed all the chords we've been learning, and added four new ones for this year.
We then went over the songs from last week, and added a new one, "Circles, by Post Malone." We tried to play it at 65% speed but ran out of time.
April 2nd, 2024
We reviewed the names of the guitar parts, the chords he has been learning, and we added two new songs: Down by the Bay and Happy Birthday.
This required us to learn a few more chords, which I wrote out in his new book.
We did some drills to race to the chords before we ran out of time.
March 26th, 2024
We had a good time tonight! We started with learning the names of the strings, using a saying:
Every Angry Dog Gets Bitten Eventually
We then tuned the guitar, and stretched the strings, then retuned it.
We then talked about needing a book, and putting the names of a few favourite songs in the back of it for us to learn in future lessons.
We then learned all the parts of the guitar: neck, head, body, sound hole, pick guard, saddle, bridge, nut, machine heads/tuning pegs, strings, fret board, fret bars, frets
He then showed me two chords he knew: E minor and E major. We then learned G, A minor, and A.
We strummed all the chords sixteen strums using down, down, down up, down.
We then did "races" for his chords to see how many seconds to play them after placing his hand on his knee.
