Cooper Robidoux

Past Notes

December 7th, 2023

Cooper is sick today.

November 30th, 2023

We continued working on As Time Passes, and on the chord switching. There is a different part to the song which I wrote out for him.

He also wanted to learn Dsus and the B minor bar chord, so I showed him that.

November 23rd, 2023

Cooper forgot his new book and instead brought his original book. I rewrote the chords that were in the new book into this older book and rewrote the song As Time Passes too.

It's challenging when the same book doesn't come each week, so please help him to remember to bring the same one with him each time.

We worked on switching chords that are in the As Time Passes song, and then played along with Sam Barber on YouTube at .75 speed.

November 16th, 2023

Oops, Cooper forgot his book this week, so we weren't able to progress with new chords or songs, but we spent the time drilling on chords.

After that, we did a new slap strum pattern (strum strum slap (rest) strum strum slap (rest))

See you next week!

November 9th, 2023

Wer wrote out the chords in the new book, and the song As Time Passes.

We went over the chords of the song a few times, and raced the chords to help Cooper play B minor and D faster.

We also added a few new chords.

Great job, I can tell you've been practising.

November 2nd, 2023

Cooper said he didn't practise much this week. Please be sure he works on guitar for 10 minutes a day at least.

We reviewed the chords he's been learning, and then I wrote out As Time Passes for him to learn. We practised the chord transitions and then tried playing through the song.

He still had the same booklet... if you can confirm that you're getting these messages, that would be great.

October 26th, 2023

Cooper brought a book, but it was all filled in with other stuff, so I gave him a little book I had - which was also full of a lot of Rosie's French immersion homework. Please find Cooper a book he can use each week and ensure he brings it.

We wrote out all the chords he's been learning in the book, and went through them, before looking at "At Time Passes" quickly at the end of the lesson.

October 12th, 2023

Cooper forgot his book again. It's really hard for me to teach him without a book, so please help him remember.

We went over a lot of the chords and just did drills to help him with switching and remembering.

2023-10-05 00:00:00 Sam Barber, As Time Passes

Cooper forgot his book, but was able to remember the chords he has been learning. We spent the lesson reviewing the chords, and also added three new chords:
D minor, A, and F.

Because he didn't have his book, we didn't go over his song, but we did look at future songs to learn. He likes Sam Barber. The songs we looked at all need a capo, so if you can get him one, that will help.

He's doing well!

September 28th, 2023

Cooper is doing well. We went through the chords together for a while, then the Zach Bryan, song. We added the chorus, and learned a new chord, C. We worked on racing to that chord, from the knee and from the D chord.

He should keep racing himself at home, and working at changing from any one chord to any other chord.

2023-09-14 00:00:00 Zach Bryan, Something In The Orange

Cooper came in enthusiastic, and well practised. He had drawn out the chords for me in his book, and we worked through them for a while before trying his first song:

Zach Bryan, Something In The Orange

It's not a simple song, but fortunately only has three chords in it, so it's actually a decent one to start with! We played through it, and then did some races to help him switch to the chords faster.

September 7th, 2023

Cooper did well today! He's enthusiastic to learn and didn't want to take it easy from the start, which is great.

I asked him to bring a book next time, and this week to copy the guitar and names of the parts of the guitar into his book.

He can copy all of the notes we made on the sheet of paper into his book. The book should stay up on a music stand without tipping forward.

We learned a few chords: G, Em, A, D, and Am.

He wants to learn some country songs. He should make a list of his favourites.
