2022-06-08 00:00:00 David Guetta, Titanium

Kyleigh played through Die Young and Moves Like Jagger for me. She has also been working on B minor and F, and showed those to me.

We looked at Titanium again - a song we tried a long time ago. We went through most of it before running out of time.

June 1st, 2022

Kyleigh played Die Young at 62% speed today! Amazing. Try to get to 75%

We added Moves Like Jagger today:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-jqcZ_Jbd8

May 25th, 2022

Kyleigh can't make it tonight.

May 18th, 2022

We continued with Die Young, working on the chords for the whole lesson, and doing some "races" too, to get faster at switching.

Good job! The quickest you got your Bminor was about 1.5 seconds.... see if you can get it to 1 second this week!

May 11th, 2022

Kyleigh has been working on the Bm7, I think - she's getting better and better at it. We focused on just that chord for about 15 minutes of the lesson, and then switching to it from the G... then we played along with the song at 50% speed... it's really coming along! Once she gets it faster, she can try moving the speed up closer to 100%.

Then we went over a couple of songs for an upcoming fireside birthday she's attending.

May 4th, 2022
2022-05-04 00:00:00 Kesha, Die Young

Kyleigh played through Chasing Cars for me - she couldn't remember the beginning picking, so I recorded a video for her.

We added a new one, Kesha, Die Young:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EBALIhQ0Tg&ab_channel=7thHeaven

April 27th, 2022

Kyleigh had a big test this week, so hadn't been able to practice. We reviewed the last three songs and went over a few chords, but she wasn't quite ready with Chasing Cars yet... work on it again this week.

See you!

April 20th, 2022
2022-04-20 00:00:00 Snow Patrol, Chasing Cars
2022-04-20 00:00:00 One Republic, Counting Stars

We went over Wildest Dreams and Counting Stars together, and then added Snow Patrol, Chasing Cars:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaKr98ktoxU&ab_channel=JariMeevis

Keep working on the chords you struggle with like D minor! You are close... don't forget A minor (your fingers are sometimes on the wrong notes)

April 13th, 2022

Kyleigh can finish up with Old Town Road now, it's great!

We reviewed Wildest Dreams, at 80% speed. It still needs some work, so try another week.

Then we added One Republic, Counting Stars:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzMGDIU_-ow&ab_channel=TajTracks

Work on that D minor so you can play this as well as Old Town Road.

April 6th, 2022
2022-04-06 00:00:00 Taylor Swift, Wildest Dreams

Kyleigh did very well on Old Town Road. After that, we added Taylor Swift, Wildest Dreams
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sMDJbID8F4&ab_channel=GameZone

Keep working on all your chords, so that you can switch to them quickly. This will help with all future songs we learn.

Great job!

March 30th, 2022

We added Old Town Road this week, which is fairly easy to play since there are only four repeating chords.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ae5Ap77b7k

We also reviewed Under the Sea which she is doing much better on, and Encanto, which still needs a bit of work.

March 23rd, 2022

Kyleigh is much better with the B7! We worked through Surface Pressure some more.

We again reviewed Under the Sea, working on the quick chord change in the intro, and then some of the chorus too.

The same problem is plaguing Kyleigh in that she can't change chords fast enough to be able to play the songs we're learning. I hope she can spend more time on this, it will really help her enjoy it much more.

I suggest she go through YouTube or Google, and do a search for easy guitar song... then write down the names of the ones she recognizes.

I can provide a list, but she hasn't been as keen to learn the ones I suggest.

March 16th, 2022

Kyleigh is getting better with the B7! We worked through Surface Pressure some more, and I added a few more sections in the chords.

We then reviewed Under the Sea too, working on the quick chord change in the intro, and then some of the chorus too.

Good job!

March 9th, 2022

We spent most of the lesson working on the B7, trying to get to it faster, and switching to it from the C chord in the song Surface Pressure.

At the end of the lesson we went over Perfect a couple of times.

March 2nd, 2022
2022-03-02 01:00:00 Surface Pressure

We played through Under the Sea a few times, and worked on switching the the E faster. Then we added a new song called Surface Pressure:

February 23rd, 2022
2022-02-23 01:00:00 The Little Mermaid, Under the Sea

We went over All Of Me together - Kyleigh wasn't able to do it quite at speed, but we did it a bit slower. I wrote out the next section for her, and then she wanted to learn a Disney song.

We added The Little Mermaid's Under the Sea:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQV7DKBqGdk&ab_channel=RyanEllis

February 9th, 2022
2022-02-09 01:00:00 John Legend, All Of Me

Kyleigh did well today - we played through Perfect together, and grandma Joanne videoed it, and then we added a new one by John Legend, called Of Of Me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvpHvUfAUrE

See you next week!

February 2nd, 2022

We reviewed both of the songs from last week, working especially on the middle part of Perfect, where the chords change quickly.

I wrote out the D/B for Marissa if she wants to play along with Radioactive -- I told Kyleigh she didn't need to work about the D/B, just play a D there.

January 26th, 2022

We went over all the chords together to start, and then a few of the older songs.

Then we added two new songs - simplifiying the first, "Radioactive"

Imagine Dragons, Radioactive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrgaB9xu7GM

Ed Sheeran, Perfect
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDDMYw_IZnE

January 19th, 2022

We went over her older songs together and then ended with Dance Monkey - she's still having some trouble with B minor, so encourage her to practice that one lots.

January 12th, 2022

We went through Dance Monkey together - Joanne made a video to help interpret at home.

Then in the last five minutes we reviewed Happy Birthday for Cadon and Avery.

January 5th, 2022

Kyleigh played through her last songs for me, and then we reviewed B minor together. She was really hating that chord, so we timed her and got it up to 1.5 seconds... I gave her a total of 5000 points to get there! ;-) Points are worth nothing, except motivation! hahaha!

We wrote out Dance Monkey for next week,. Bring your capo.

December 29th, 2021

I missed Kyleigh tonight. Happy New Year!

December 22nd, 2021

Kyleigh is unable to come this evening.

December 8th, 2021

We worked on Santa Claus is Coming to Town some more tonight, trying to focus on switching between G and C, which happens often in this song.

We talked about the slashes (/) in the bars, and how each slash represents a beat. For example, in the following, G is played for two bars:

G / / / | / / / / |
1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4

Each vertical line is a demarcation of the bars.

After going through it and working on it for 20 minutes, we spent the last 10 going over Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer some more.

I encouraged her to make time to practice so we can keep moving forward with learning songs.

December 1st, 2021

Kyleigh is sick tonight, so won't be coming in.

November 24th, 2021

We started with reviewing of Rudolph, and working on memorizing the chord changes so she can play it without stopping and looking at the music. It was great! She's really improving on that one.

We then tried Circles, but she was struggling a lot with switching between C and F, so I said work on it more at home instead of practicing it today.

We then added Jingle Bells, which is EASY, so also added Santa Claus is Coming to Town... which we ran out of time on.

November 17th, 2021

We went over Rudolph and then we added D minor and C major7... I had grandma Joanne video the chord changes in Circles, because Kyleigh said she was having trouble with it at home.

We then went over it a couple of times.

November 10th, 2021
2021-11-10 01:00:00 Post Malone, Circles

Kyleigh came with her grandma and cousins today.

We went through the Titanium song - Kyleigh has made some progress on B minor, but not quite fast enough to play the song.

I told her that this song has the chords switching faster than others, and suggested Circles would be a good song to try that allows her more time between chords. I wrote it out for her. Here's the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sca9FP6zl8

She played it a bit, but then felt frustrated by it too, I think, so I suggested a Christmas Song. We added Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

November 3rd, 2021
2021-11-03 00:00:00 Titanium

Kyleigh came with Grandma Joanne today.

We went through Titanium a number of times, with K just playing two chords instead of all four. She said she hadn't practised all week, so I took the time to work through switching chords. Eventually we added in the next chord, so she was playing D, A, and G in the song- she was able to keep up with the video of the song at 80% of the speed.

We then did some "hand racing" to B minor.

October 27th, 2021

Kyleigh has been working on Titanium, playing just the D and the G chords. We went through it a few times, and then tried adding the A chord to the switching. We're still skipping the B minor (which is a challenging chord).

I showed her how to slow the YouTube video down to 75% by clicking the gear icon in the interface and choosing speed, then .75

October 20th, 2021

We played through all of the songs she's been doing, and also worked on switching between D and G and G to E minor a bit.

Then we added Titanium:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UlRIbpYTwk

It switches quickly, so just play every second chord, or the Ds and Gs.

October 13th, 2021

Kyleigh wanted to focus on Happy Birthday exclusively tonight since tomorrow is her mom's birthday. We worked on it a number of times, and also practised switching between the G and D chords to help her get faster at playing the song.

I also had her try switching without looking, and that is something she should keep doing.

I wrote out some other chords for her: E and D7.

We added Down by the Bay as another song to work on.

October 6th, 2021

We reviewed the chords she's been learning. She has been struggling with D, so we focused on that one especially.

We then went through Happy Birthday a few times, just to work on the chord switching.

Then we added Mary Had a Little Lamb.

I wrote out a new chord, A, for her to work on as well.

September 29th, 2021

Kyleigh had her Em and G down really well. We did the racing to play the chords as quickly as possible, and she had about 2.5 seconds per chord!

We added some new ones, Am, C, and D... and then I wrote out Happy Birthday for her to learn.

Great job, keep practising!

September 22nd, 2021

This was Kyleigh's first week on guitar.

We started out with the names of the parts of the guitar.

I forgot to ask her to draw a picture of a guitar in her book and label each of the parts she can:

head,
tuning pegs / machine heads / tuners,
nut,
neck,
fret bars,
fret board,
fret spaces,
body,
sound hole,
pick guard,
bridge,
sound board,

We then added two chords: E minor and G, and played through the racing game to help her get used to putting her fingers in the right place.
