Past Notes
January 26th, 2021
We continued working through her song - we also talked about the next song to work on.

Amelia has made some progress - I'd like to see more, but at least we're moving forward incrementally.
I would like her to get the intro done, both hands, memorized by next week.
Also, try to put four bars together at verse 15 to 18, both hands.

We had some challenges with tech today. We managed to connect, but didn't quite get in the 30 minutes. Maybe next time!
Here's the sheet music (for my use:)

Amelia should continue to focus on just the bars she's struggling with. For example, we got as far as bar 14... I recommend she just play bar 14 over and over again - until she can do it from memory.
Then connect it to bar 13, starting at 13, and playing through 14... until she has that down.
The go from 13 to 15, in the same way - etc. etc.
See you next time!

Today was Amelia's first lesson.
I asked her to play something for me, but she didn't have anything that she felt comfortable doing. So we switched direction, and I asked her to talk to me about what she'd like to learn going forward.
She mentioned Anime music, which is something I'm familiar with, because my daughter, and other past students have been learning this kind of thing as well.
We looked at a piece which she has been working on, and I asked her if there were any questions she had about it which I could answer for her. She asked about pedalling in one section, and I recommended something (breaking the pedal up on the first two bars of pedalling, similar to how it is in the following bars (every two beats instead of every four, to decrease muddiness). She wasn't sure she agreed, so I said to do what she thought was best.
We then talked about goals until next lesson, and I laid out two possible goals - 1. get the left hand learned and memorized by next Tuesday, or 2., to set a halfway point in the song to learn with both hands.
I look forward to working with Amelia over the next number of months!
