Leah Wagar

Past Notes

March 13th, 2020

Leah said she didn't practice at all this week, which was too bad, but we went through the Baby Shark as much as I could get her too.

I wrote out the rest of the melody, and included the left hand notes (the upper case letters). She was able to play it through, but didn't seem to want to, and wanted to move on to a new song.

I said she had to get to play this much more smoothly before learning a new song.

I guess it will be a few weeks until we meet again, so there should be lots of time to learn.

Leah was full of beans today! :) Lots of stories about Lou and Silver and Molly(?), and dog poo and vomit on the couch, and going to gymnastics etc.

I had a bit of a hard time getting her to want to play. She kept saying her fingers were too tired. I tried to distract her with learning other things, like which fingers to play with (we drew out an image of her hand on her new book, etc).... but just couldn't get her to stay focused.

She told me she would play more for me next week, so hopefully we get there!

We wrote out the first line of Baby Shark, but she would only play it for me twice, and so we couldn't work on the things that needed improving.

Leah did a great job today, and actually was really chatty compared to last time! She told me all about a birthday for Andre, and he cousins, and a baby cousin, and who was mom's and who was dad's side of the family, etc. She talked about her three dogs, and the toys that they have, and that the house got switched up for which rooms were which rooms, etc. etc! LOL what a contrast!

We went through Mary Had a Little Lamb a couple of times, and then added Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It's another simple melody, and this time we've added some new notes to the scale, F, G, and A.

She wasn't awfully excited to play through the song the three or four times I asked her to, but hopefully we can get her to practice at home and get it a little faster / more flowing.

Today was Leah's first week.

We started out with learning where the dog house is, and how to find letters around it (C, D, and E).

We learned a simplified version of Mary Had a Little Lamb.

Leah wouldn't talk to me, only nod or shake her head. I think maybe she was intimidated by me or something, though I did get her to give me "five" a few times.
