Past Notes

Here's a lyrics version of In My Life:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBcdt6DsLQA
We went through it a bunch of times, just trying to smooth out the rough spots. She should work on strumming on every beat, and practice maybe singing along to get it up to speed.
November 18th, 2019
We went over Closer together, starting at something like 62% of the original speed, and slowly increased the time until we were up to 100% speed!
The C chord is sometimes "deformed" somewhat, so be careful that you're placing that chord correctly.
After that, we added In My Life by the Beatles:

Ava is unwell this week.
November 4th, 2019
Ava was having trouble with her Bminor, and wanted to try a different song, so we added a new song, by The Chainsmokers called "Closer"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25ROFXjoaAU
It has C, D, Em, and D again in it, over and over again.

Ava had been playing a couple of chords incorrectly, again confusing the sixth and first strings as the edge of the guitar in the diagrams.
I wrote a little note in her book next to the diagram to help her remember.
We went over Lonely People again, and then added a new song by Walk Off the Earth:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCSM3-mdSdA
This requires some fast chord changing, and learning of B minor, which is a hard chord to play.
Remind her she doesn't need to strum so loudly.

Ava went second tonight.
We reviewed the two songs by the Beatles that she's been workign on (Here Comes the Sun and Eleanor Rigby). She's been practicing the C wrong, so that gave her a bit of a set back, but overall she's doing quite well.
When she practices this week, she should really focus on playing the chords with her fingers closer to the fret bars, and ensuring each string is 'sounding.' with no interference from a neighbouring finger.

Ava did a good job this week- a few little misplaced fingers here and there, but generally improving!
We started by going over the chords at the top of her page - she said she hadn't been really practicing those, so I asked her to go over them all every time she practices.
After that, we reviewed Here Comes the Sun, and ironed out some of the problems in that song here and there.
We then added another Beatles song, Eleanor Rigby - this required learning two new chords: C and A minor.

Ava did really well with playing through the Vampire weekend song.
We added a new one for her to work on by the Beatles, Here Comes the Sun:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQetemT1sWc
Ava should watch that her fingers are on the right strings for the E chord, which she sometimes plays wrong.
Also, try to learn B minor, as I'd like to start using it in the songs we're learning.

Ave got a new guitar! A really nice one too!
We added a song by Vampire Weekend, called This Life:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIGNNOZ0948
It is in the key of A, and I wrote out the chords for her, simplifying it a bit, and slowing down the song to 37% up to 41% of the original speed to make it easier to play along with.
The strum pattern is down, down up up rest

Ava did an amazing job tonight, and was able to switch to various chords quite quickly.
She drew a picture of a guitar, which looked amazing, and labeled the parts correctly. Don't forget "machine heads"
We learned G, A, D, Eminor and Bminor.
She strummed the basic all-down strum pattern.
We played A for 8 beats, switched to Eminor for 8 beats. She should work on that for all the chords, and try to shape and form them in 1 second for each chord.

Ava is learning guitar. We went over the names of the parts of the guitar., She should draw a picture and put arrows withthe names. PRactice the G and the D chord, racing herself to get 5 seconds if she can.
work on that part of the D scale we practiced.
