We reviewed the drum beats from last week, and added side shots, flam fills on beats 3 and 4, and switching between kick/hat, kick with sideshot, and kick with snare beats.

We also talked about playing drum rolls on the snare.

We continued with the drum beats from last week, and I played the electric guitar along with her.

We added a tom on beat 4 (every second bar) followed by a crash on beat one.

We went through the quarter note drum beat together a number of times, with me on the bass. We added a crash on beat one, first every bar, and then every two bars.

She found it easier to play when playing along with a song, so I suggested she find a simple song that she can play along with. We pulled up a Luke Bryan song, Huntin and Fishin:

Today was Jenn's first lesson!

I wrote out a bit of drum music to show her the concept of 4.4 time, with a kick on 1 and 3, and snare on 2 and 4. We then added the high hat on each quarter note (each beat).

We worked through that for a while, and then I showed her the drum roll on the snare
