Jennifer brought strings in today, and I showed her how to string and tune a guitar.

It sounds great now!

We also talked about some new song ideas, like Kansas, Dust in the Wind, or Bon Iver, Halcyon.

We continued with the Death Cab for Cutie, I will Follow You Into the Dark song - we added a couple of little extra features like a hammer-on, and also worked out the strumming. We were at about 70% of the actual speed of the song, I think.

Next week maybe we'll add the missing D sharp note at one point, and then go on to the next song.

This was Jennifer's first lesson! She came in knowing a number of chords already. She is interested in folk rock and pop, indie stuff... we started with a song by the Shins called Past and Pending:

Pretty song! We did it at 80% speed (though I think she could have gone faster! LOL)

We talked about strumming, the root or bass note of each chord, etc.
