We'll try to finish it up next week.

March 29th, 2016

Benjamin had a new song he needed to learn for his band group; I wrote out the parts for him and we went through it about five times. I think he's ready! :)

2016-03-22 00:00:00 Metallica, Enter Sandman

I wrote out the bass part for the Metallica song from last week- I forgot to take notes last week, but the song was:

He'd forgot his book last week, so I wrote it on a scrap piece of paper. This week I put it in the book properly, and we went through it a few times.

2016-03-01 01:00:00 Metallica, One

We went through Self Esteem together, which he'd memorized, and really nailed. (He forgot his book though).

I got a piece of paper and wrote out the notes for a new song by Metallica called One:

I also wrote out the bottom frets with the notes so he could practice learning which notes are on which fret.

I wrote out the parts, and we went through it a few times. It's pretty easy, and I think he felt relieved that it wasn't as hard as he expected.

He mentioned that at his Saturday classes, the teacher doesn't really teach anything... not sure if you were are of that. :-/

2016-02-09 01:00:00 Metallica, Creeping Death

Ben and I went over the Stevie Ray Song from last week, and I played the drums and the electric guitar with him on it, just to help him get solid.

We then added a new song by Metallica, called Creeping Death:

I wrote out the tab for the more complicated version of the bass-- still not quite like the original, but closer than what his teacher showed him, and yet achievable.

Ben was focused tonight. We worked through the song from last week, and then added a new song Nothing Else Matters by Metallica.

He is still having trouble remembering the names of the notes on the fret board and will need to practice more on this if we're take the next steps in learning.

I took his photo to put on my site-- let me know if you'd rather not have his photo posted.

2016-01-05 01:00:00 Metallica, Fade to Black

Ben played drums for me on a Metallica song, and then we learned a new song, Fade to Black also by Metalica:

We didn't finish it, but I'd like him to try to figure out any missing parts-- try listening to it with headphones to pick up the nuances we glossed over tonight.

December 29th, 2015

Ben seemed to be in a great mood tonight, and amiable to suggestions.

We reviewed the C and A scales, and I showed him again how the number system is a way to play the scales.

We reviewed the Zac Brown Band song Knee Deep, and then added a new one by the Sheepdogs:

This was Ben's first week, and he brought a bass in. We talked about the number system for playing scales, and he picked it up quite quickly.

We added a song by the Zac Brown Band, called Knee Deep.

He left his book behind, btw.
