Courtney Drew
Past Notes
December 8th, 2025
Courtney has to work tonight and won't be coming.
December 1st, 2025
We continued working through the finger picking on the Gracie Abrams song. I gave her some tips to help switch more smoothly, and we did that for the whole lesson.
November 24th, 2025
We moved on to Ordinary and worked through some fingering - it was somewhat different than her uncle showed her, so that was interesting!
I recommended we try to put fingering picking principles to songs she already knows so she can work on the patterns, and we did it for the Gracie Abrams song from three weeks or so ago. I suggested she try to make that pattern repeat every two beats instead of every beat to make it more interesting.
November 17th, 2025
We changed the capo position of Almost, so we could play in C instead of D.
We went through it a few times, and I wrote out strumming patterns to help.
November 10th, 2025
Courtney has to work today and cannot make the lesson time.
November 3rd, 2025
We worked on Before You Go some more, working out simpler fingerings and ensuring the chord changes happened in the right place.
At the end of the lesson I showed her how to play the chords for Almost, also by Lewis Capaldi.
October 27th, 2025
We reviewed Before You Go, working out more of the finger picking, and the way an extra string is rung in the top -- I think that maybe that was the chorus?
October 20th, 2025
Courtney felt like Homesick might be a bit hard for her, so we tried Gracie Abrams, I Love You, I'm Sorry. This was quite a bit easier, maybe too easy, so we talked about alternatives like Kansas, or The Beatles.
We settled on trying to learn the finger picking on the first song we started with, "Before You Go."
October 6th, 2025
We went through Homesick a couple of times, at normal speed and 75% speed, and I wrote out the rest of the chords. We didn't get to test all of the new chords to the end with the song (so I might have made a mistake), but we'll check them next time.
We did take a few detours with some theory and bar chords. We'll come back to that in the future.
Remember no lessons on Thanksgiving.

Courtney did well on Survive, despite having a busy week and not being able to practise much.
We went over it together and then added Mico, Homesick. Fun song! It has some tricky chords that were new to her so we slowed it down, and worked through it at a speed more manageable.

Courtney brought back my capo lol!
We went through Before You Go together, and worked out the strumming, which is very weird. Then we added Survive, a new one by Lewis Capaldi, and actually pretty easy, except for the C minor (which is a B minor up one fret toward the saddle).
September 15th, 2025
This was Courney's second lesson, because her first is actually connected to her brother's account, so I don't have notes on it.
We reviewed the chords she knew, and I wrote out some chords that she didn't quite remember correctly or didn't know.
We then looked up the song Before You Go by Lewis Capaldi, and played through it at 75% speed. She had my missing capo! I think she took it with her again lol! :)
