Tina Bell
Past Notes
February 8th, 2024
Tina won't be coming in today.
February 1st, 2024
I showed Tina how TAB worked today (tablature) and we worked through some of the chords in the beginning of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica.
This is just an approach to approximate the sound of the song without playing it exactly note for note.

We went over some of the stuff we did last time briefly, and then I showed Tina the Circle of Fifths. In this circle, it shows the 6 chords that are in each key. I explained how changing keys make a song higher or lower.
Each key has three major chords and three minor chords.
I then wrote out two chords that will expand the circle: B minor and F# minor. I explained that when you play a D, but but a b note in the bottom of that chord, it makes the D into a B minor 7. This is a bit easier to play that the bar chord B minor.
I also showed how adding an F# to the bottom of an A chord makes it into an F# minor 7.
I wrote out some chord progressions in different keys to give her an opportunity to practise the new chords in a bit more of a musical way.
I also suggested she use drills to get faster at chords. Lifting your fingers up just a little bit, and then putting them back can help with muscle memory. As confidence grows, lift them further and further away.
Also, put one's hand on the lap, and then racing yourself to play the chord as quickly as you can will aid.

Tina will be away January 18th - it's her husband's birthday.

This was Tina's first week. She came in already knowing quite a few chords, and picked up learning A minor and D minor quite quickly.
We spent the majority of the lesson doing some basic strumming patterns, and we talked about some basic theory.
Great job! See you in two weeks.
