Owen said he lost his book and guitar case, so I wrote out the song by Johnny Cash again.
We went through it a few times and then added Riptide:

Owen said he played Happy Birthday for his friend Josh this week and it went well. I couldn't get many more words out of him that that! lol
We then added a new song, "I've Been Everywhere Man" by Johnny Cash.

Fortunately, these are the same three chords (essentially) as the last song, so an easy next one to learn.
I wrote out the seventh chords for A and E, but they're optional until he gets faster at switching.
We played along with Johnny at 50%, then 75% speed.
September 13th, 2021
This was Owen's first week of guitar. We drew a picture of a guitar, and labelled the various parts (which he mostly knew already because he has played Uke).
We then learned three chords, E, B7, and A, to play Happy Birthday with. We went through it a few times, then did the timed "race" to get faster at playing chords.
When we returned to the song, he had made improvement in that short time.
Practice doing this, and beat your times for the chords. Also, let me know how singing Happy Birthday for Josh goes.
