November 12th, 2012
Seth is doing really well. Today he added a right hand intro part to the song "How to Save a Life," and he will be practicing it this week.
November 5th, 2012
Today Seth and I added 2 new songs, "How to Save a Life," and I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
He should keep working on the D/F# chords so that he isn't screwed up with them.
Also, I want him to play octaves with his left hand for "Still Haven't Found"
October 29th, 2012
October 22nd, 2012
Seth and I went over The Cave a couple of times, with me on vocals first, then along with the YouTube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJcvLyoAAnk
He is doing well, but needs to focus on playing the chords at the right speed-- they go by pretty fast!
Then we decided to add another song, and went through some of the worship choruses we do at church. He picked the ideas up quickly.
Some new chords included the 'sus' chords, where you raise the middle note one step. Also, reminded him of the difference between major and minors and remember to note that.
He should practice the apostle's creed song, along with the Cave this week.
Also, if he's feeling brave, he can work ahead in the worship song book.
October 15th, 2012
Seth and I started with doubting Thomas, and he had forgotten some of the quarter note parts, and the intro, wasn't always that cool little arpegion thing. But we added another song, The Cave, by Mumford and Sons.
We started by learning the E scale, and him singing and playing Doh, Re, Me, along with the playing. This helps establish which key we're in, and which notes are sharp and flat.
He then played through the chords in the song: E, A, C#m and B, with that in mind, sharping the right note as needed.
We then sang and played through it. I asked him to practice it with both hands.
October 11th, 2012
October 1st, 2012
Today Seth and I worked on Doubting Thomas.
He didn't practice this week, so wasn't really able to work on the things we'd talked about.
September 24th, 2012
This week Seth and I worked on C, F, and G, and Dm, Em, and Am.
I want Seth to keep working on those chords, doing the song we made that goes:
C, Em, Dm, F, Em, G, F, Am, G, C___
Also, I want Seth to practice the scale with both hands, using the metronome which is
http://www.metronomeonline.com/
Also, the inversions up are good, but Seth needs to work on the inversions coming down, for the C chord.
September 17th, 2012
Today we reviewed chords, playing C, F, G, and talking about the 3 inversions of C. I asked Seth to practice the inversions, keeping them smooth, and playing them as quickly as he can.
We also learned the "magic scale" of C, with first the right, then the left hand, then together. I asked him to practice them apart and together, smoothly, musically.
