Lyndsay Gardiner-Kay
Past Notes
October 11th, 2019
Lyndsay was quite late coming to lessons today- I had to go looking for her, and then she was in another class apparently. Also, she forgot her book and said she didn't really have time to practice.
She's going to need to put more effort into her lessons if I'm to continue to teach her.
We went over Begin Again by Taylor Swift a number of times (I wrote out the beginning for her again), and tried to get the playing a bit up to speed. She still struggles with knowing where her notes are, so this is just because of not practicing.

Lyndsay said she didn't practice at all this week, so that makes it challenging - if she could spend 10 minutes a day that would make a big difference in learning.
We went through Mary Had a Little Lamb a number of times, and reviewed things like note names, chords, etc., which she seemed to have completely forgotten.
I wrote out a few chords for Taylor Swift's Begin Again:

Today we added the left hand to the song Lyndsay is learning. She wasn't overly confident, nor enthusiastic today, maybe because it's a baby song, but I tried to reassure her that this is just the process until she's ready to learn more complex songs. We've got to start somewhere.
She seemed a little "down," and I asked her if everything was okay. She reported that a kid on her bus is threatening to kill people, or saying that someone else is threatening to kill people, or something like that.
I thought I should mention it... hopefully just kids being kids.

Lyndsay came in as a fresh student, never having learned before, but she knew a bit already. She knew where C was, and knew the basic principles of sheet music too!
We did some basic stuff, like what each note name on the piano is, and I gave her a story (grandma and the dog house) to help her remember. She still counts out the note names, and I encouraged her to memorize it to help her in the future.
We wrote out two simple melodies, Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle Twinkle.
She should practice those for next Friday.
