Rock & Roll 101

Cassidy forgot her music tonight, it's on my music stand. Feel free to come get it anytime.

We reviewed the C#minor chord a bit, and I also gave a lesson on scales, and learned how to play the major scale.

Brr! It was a cold one tonight!

We continued with Our Song, and then added Love Story by Taylor Swift.

I wrote out the chords for her, and we looked at some of the chords that were new. We then went over it together, and again at 60% speed with the recording.

Cassidy is still struggling a bit with the G chord - be sure to get that down without having to think about it - if you forget, look online or something to help you really get that- you should have it by now. :)

We added 9 new chords, 7ths and sus chords mostly, and got the song up to 80% speed. Try to get it up to 100% this week.

Also, think about a new song you would like to learn, and perhaps buy a capo from the guitar shop.

We went over everything together again, including all the chords and the new song -- we didn't have time to review the strumming patterns.

Cassidy was still having some issues with G, and with getting from Esus to E, etc. so we did some drills on that.

Another week or so we should be able to learn the next song.

We reviewed the chords, Cassidy is still having trouble with G - she should focus on that one this week.

We then went through the song she's learning, and ended with learning four or five different strum patterns.

Cassidy came late because of the storm, but we did the full half hour anyway. Her father asked if he might do an extra lesson next week since they're going to be away. I said it might be a possibility.

We reviewed the chords she learned last week, and then added some new ones: A minor, C, and F. I also showed her a bar chord.

She didn't have a book so I wrote it out for her on a piece of paper.

January 17th, 2017

This was Cassidy's first week.

We learned to tune the guitar, and the names of the various parts of the guitar, such as neck, frets, bridge, nut, cutout, machine heads / tuners / pegs

We learned two chords: G and E minor.

We talked about the difference between major and minor chords.

I asked her to bring a book, to practice every day etc.
